Who is Gabriel Zakaib?
I'm an outside-of-the-box journalist, decisive visual storyteller and forward-moving professional.

Classically education a premier university in Washington D.C., I've explored what lied beyond the borders of my college world.
​
Although I've been classically educated, I'm a proven out-of-bounder. I know the storytelling value that comes with a step outside the comfort zone -- and I've grown to make those steps in pursuit of strong, challenging journalism.​

Important tells us something about the world and something about ourselves.

I've developed an ability to connect with sources who live different lives than myself, and to locate moving, meaningful interpersonal moments that speak to the human condition.

Creative at heart, Zakaib has spent months reporting on the homelessness community of the streets of Washington D.C. He has investigated rural religious communities in Virginia. He has spent time understanding the lives of fisherman on Virginia's Wicomico River, of the corporate professionals of Washington D.C. and of young non-college educated seasonal workers in Montana. ​

Gabriel Zakaib is a documentary photographer and reporter studying Journalism at American University in Washington, D.C. He understands the world through adventure and powerful stories. ​​ Zakaib has documented life in small-town Virginia, reported on rural religious communities, trekked the mountains of Montana and photographed national protests in front of the White House. He is interested in exploring cultures and communities at the heart of America.​​ ​ Zakaib is published in The Rappahannock Record, The Eagle, and other publications. He has run his photography business shooting weddings, events and portraits since 2016 serving clients such as Thomas Jefferson's Monticello, the Emily Couric Leadership Forum and Cohen Veterans Bioscience.
